Best Practices for Minimum Wage Notifications

Your GovDocs Program provides several types of Minimum Wage Notifications, each serving a different purpose. Some give you a high level view of what is happening across the industry. Others are personalized to your organization's specific locations and effective dates. Setting up your preferences correctly means you get the right information at the right time, without missing a required compliance update.
This Knowledge Center article walks you through each notification type and recommendations based on your minimum wage operations.
Types of Communications
Program Summary
Sent on the first Wednesday of each month. Summarizes the last 30 days of Minimum Wage announcements for a broad view of what has changed across all jurisdictions.
30/60/90 Day Notifcations
Personalized to your locations. Each notification flags an upcoming wage change with an effective date 30, 60, or 90 days out, so you can plan ahead for the locations affected.
Real Time Notifications
Triggered as soon as a change is confirmed:
| 1 | A jurisdiction's governing agency releases a new wage. |
| 2 | GovDocs' Employment Law & Compliance (ELC) team reviews the update. |
| 3 | The update is published in the GovDocs Minimum Wage Solution. |
| 4 | If you have a location in that jurisdiction, you receive an email notification. |
Recommended Setup by Role
| Job | How Notifications can Help You |
|---|---|
| Compensation & Total Rewards |
Turn on 30/60/90 day notifications and Real Time notifications. Wage changes land directly on your desk first, so lead time on effective dates matters most for your day to day work.
|
| HR Compliance & HR Operations |
Turn on all notification types, including Real Time. Your role owns the risk of a missed update, so full visibility across every notification type is the safest setup.
|
| HRIS & Payroll |
Prioritize 30/60/90 day notification for your active locations. These give you the runway needed to update systems and payroll calculations before a wage change takes effect.
|
| Vice President, Director, Executive |
Program Summary is typically sufficient. It gives a monthly view of overall trends without needing location level detail.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Turning off all notifications after an initial setup, which removes visibility into future changes
- Using a shared inbox that filters automated emails as spam
- Not updating preferences after a staffing change, leaving gaps in who is receiving notifcations
- Assuming Program Summary covers location specific changes, when 30/60/90 day and Real Time notifications are needed for that level of detail
- Not whitelisting no-reply@govdocs.com, which can cause notifcations to be blocked or sent to a spam folder
